Randy Rogers debuts cover of Merle Haggard's 'Misery and Gin'

From AOL ENTERTAINMENT: Randy Rogers just delivered an incredible version of Merle Haggard's big hit, "Misery and Gin." The Texas country phenom, who is best known for his work with the Randy Rogers Band, broke things down in his spin on the country classic, and it's every bit as amazing as you'd expect.

Roger's covered the Haggard hit as part of The Classic Country Cover Song Challenge from singer/songwriter Bruce Robison's site, The Next Waltz.

The idea behind the Next Waltz's challenge was born from Robinson's love of country classics. He created the The Country Cover Song Challenge after he challenged a few friends to join him in the studio to cut one of their favorites. As a fellow fan of the classics, Rogers was definitely game.

"I consider Merle one of my biggest influences. This song has been a part of the soundtrack to my life. When Bruce asked me to join his challenge I didn't hesitate. We put our own spin on this classic drinking song."

"Randy immediately got what I wanted to do with The Next Waltz," added Robison. "He knows how the history of this music ties us together. How the beauty of the songs is the story of our time. 'Misery and Gin' is one of those. Hag didn't write it, but it is part of the soundtrack of our lives and that is what music enthusiasts – the people who create and the people who follow the music – will discover at The Next Waltz."

Take a listen to the incredible version of the song -- which will be available this Friday, Jan. 27. It will definitely serve up the perfect amount of nostalgia with a twist of modern music.
